Mysterious black globules that washed up on a Sydney beach, initially thought to be tar, have been identified as containing a mix of unsavory ingredients including human faeces, cooking oil, chemicals from cleaning products and cosmetics and illegal drugs. Each globule is slightly different, with a slightly hard outer surface from a build-up of sand and minerals such as calcium, but a soft core.
